What is Hague certification

Hague certification, also known as apostille, is applicable to member states of the Hague Convention. Chinese mainland is not a member of Hague.

However, Hong Kong is, so the Hague certification of domestic and foreign documents can be handled in Hong Kong.

Handle the Hague certification process

Provide the original or copy that needs to be authenticated by the Hague, which shall be notarized by an international lawyer (International notary) first, and then certified by the Hong Kong High Court and stamped with the apostille seal.

Note: if translation is required, the translation shall be verified in advance.

Process and timeline for Hague Apostille Certification

Document Inspection: The documents to be authenticated need to be from the country of origin, the country of intended use, and for the intended purpose.

Document Review: Submit the required authentication documents (original documents).

Submitting Documents: The authentication is done by a notary public from the country of origin and then sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Hague office for certification.

Document Mailing: The authenticated documents are mailed to the applicant.

The processing time for Hague Apostille Certification is generally 7-10 working days and the related fees depend on the type of document and the country or region of use. If the document is to be used in a non-Hague member country, it must be submitted to the embassy for embassy certification after it has been authenticated.
